HARVARD HOOTENANNY Hoedown JUNE 1ST
BBQ and Barn Dance at Prospect Hill Farm Orchards to Benefit Local Education
HARVARD, Mass., May 1, 2018 – The Harvard Schools Trust is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Hootenanny Hoedown set for Friday, June 1st at the Community Harvest Project on Prospect Hill Farm in Harvard. The event is a fundraiser for the local education foundation which provides educational enrichment grants to Hildreth Elementary School and the Bromfield School. The Hootenanny begins at 6:00 p.m. with a BBQ by Harvard’s own Chef Paul Correnty, plus live music by English Country Dance Band Paradise Bird, and a Barn Dance that begins at 7:30 p.m. with calling by Dugan Murphy.
“The Hootenanny offers a wonderful evening out in the orchard to connect with the local community, support our great schools, and discover community harvest,” said Tim Clark, Chair, Harvard Hootenanny. “Last year’s Hootenanny quickly sold out at the Town Hall, so we have moved our venue to the spacious barn at Prospect Hill Orchard and look forward to a fun-filled evening among friends.”
The HST will also be holding a canned food drive for the Community Harvest Project and any donations of canned goods will be much appreciated and will provide hunger relief for individuals and families in need across Worcester County. Tickets are $25 per person at the door or online at www.harvardschoolstrust.org. All proceeds from the Hootenanny will go toward providing educational grants that support programs and projects in Harvard Public Schools.
In the current 2017-2018 school calendar year (to date), the HST has awarded 28 grants to benefit Hildreth Elementary School and the Bromfield School, including “Beyond the Screen” learning system, Model United Nations program, Aquatic Insect Investigation program, Aerospace and Rocket Science Club, Spanish and French Language Games, Green Team Composting program, “Building Bridges: Portraits of Immigrants and Refugees” photo exhibit, Distracted Driving “Save A Life Tour,” and Boston Tea Party Reenactment.
“We are fortunate to have the Harvard Schools Trust in our community, supporting our schools with fantastic community events like the Hootenanny,” said Dr. Linda Dwight, Superintendent of Schools, Harvard Public Schools. “The 1,143 students in our district have benefited from many educational programs that enrich their experience and would not otherwise be attainable.”
The Harvard Schools Trust is recognized as an Outstanding School Partner by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and the Harvard School Committee for its support, commitment, leadership and sustained efforts to enhance the educational opportunities of the students of the Harvard Public Schools.
