Discovering Chocolate
Smell the aromas of some of the highest quality chocolate in the world and enjoy tastings of different types of chocolate while learning lots of useful information for choosing the best quality just in time for Valentine’s Day!
On the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, there is a very special organic farm where farmers raise Cacao for chocolate, Vanilla Beans, and Cinnamon. In this class, journey to this tropical location with our speaker, Nancy Engel, who has visited there often. She will bring photos of the growing, drying and processing. Photos of the workers and their families demonstrate simple farming methods of this beautiful yet labor intensive industry. Bringing the choclate’s journey back to New England, learn the local connection as many of these vanilla beans are shipped to Somerville, MA for production of organic chocolate bars.
Instructor Bio:
Nancy Engel has traveled the world for over 20 years to study aromatic and culinary plants. She has worked the harvests in the South of France, Turkey, and Costa Rica. She is the owner of Goodness Remedies in Southboro, MA and has been featured in the Boston Globe, Chronicle, and PBS, and has won various awards. She resides and works in both Massachusetts and Costa Rica.
