Great Guys Nomination Deadline
The YWCA Central Massachusetts is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Great Guy Award that recognizes men who have demonstrated a commitment to address issues of violence and domestic violence in their community. The YWCA created The Great Guy Award in 2004 to recognize the outstanding contributions of men in the central Massachusetts community who have been inspired to learn and better understand the issue of domestic violence, and who have demonstrated their commitment to end violence against women and children. Since the award’s inception, 39 individuals have received the Great Guy Award. All Great Guy Award nominees must also show a commitment to the YWCA mission—dedication to eliminating racism, and empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all—and meet the following criteria:
- Be known and respected by his peers;
- Professional and/or volunteer service to the region, community or on local college campus with a demonstrated commitment to address issues of violence and domestic violence, either through his work or volunteer efforts;
- Demonstrated commitment to serving as a role model for other men; and
- Live and/or work in YWCA’s geographic service area which includes all cities/towns in Central Massachusetts. Self-nominations are accepted, but third-party nominations are encouraged. Staff are not eligible to receive the award until five years have passed since their employment at the YWCA. Nominees are not notified unless they are selected to receive the award.
