GRAMMY Winner Mike Block Brings Pop Cello to Indian Hill Music in Littleton
Solo Concert, Student Workshop, and Live Podcast on Saturday, November 17

Littleton, November 9, 2018 – GRAMMY-winning cellist, Silkroad Ensemble member and Berklee educator Mike Block will give a special solo performance at Indian Hill Music, 36 King Street, Littleton, MA, on Saturday, November 17 at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $15 online at www.indianhillmusic.org, or by phone at (978) 486-9524.  (Indian Hill Music School students receive free admission to the concert.)
Known for his musical versatility and “standing cello” live performances, Block won a GRAMMY award as a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble, and was called “the ideal musician of the 21st century” by the legendary cellist. Hailed by the New York Times for his “vital rich-hued solo playing,” Block is also a prolific singer-songwriter and multi-genre performer. His 2018 folk release, Final Night at Camp features roots/bluegrass/world flavors and features all-star players, including jazz/folk fiddler Darol Anger. Block released his second recording of the year, Echoes of Bach, just this month.
A Berklee College of Music professor and instructor for Silkroad Ensemble’s summer Global Musician Workshop, Block is a dynamic and sought-after music educator.  He will lead a “Pop Strings Summit” workshop for string students ages 8 – 18 at Indian Hill Music before the concert, at 4pm. Students will learn pop songs by ear, create an arrangement, try improvisation, and perform a song with Mike in the evening concert. To register for the Summit, visit www.indianhillmusic.org or call (978) 486-9524. Registration is $25 ($15 for Indian Hill Music School students). All workshop participants receive free admission to the evening concert.
The popular Boston music podcast “Above the Basement” will record a live “concertcast” and interview with Block before the concert begins at 7:00pm. Concert attendees are welcome to observe the recording.
