Tariffs on Foreign Steel and Aluminum
As a direct result of the Administration’s tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which took effect in March, a ripple effect is taking place in the HVAC industry.
The 25% tariff on foreign steel and 10% on aluminum will raise manufacturers’ costs for materials needed to build heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment. In fact, according to Joanna Turpin, a senior editor at achrnews.com, a popular source of industry developments, “Manufacturers started raising prices on their equipment last April – anywhere from 2 to 12 per cent, which will ultimately hurt consumers.”
In addition, a threat remains that the Administration will add a 25% tariff on other products from China, which manufacturers compressors, controllers, and other components in heating, ventilation, air-condition, and refrigeration systems.
This is unwelcomed news for HVAC vendors and consumers alike.
If you are thinking about buying a new air-conditioning or heating system, you should consider doing it sooner, rather than later.
Nashoba Air & BoilerWorks is offering a Pre-Buy Promotion to ensure that you get your new equipment at today’s prices instead of the increased prices that will be in place throughout the industry in 2019. Buy now and schedule your equipment installation for next year and you can save considerably. Contact Nashoba Air & BoilerWorks for an in-home quote. With a deposit, we will purchase your equipment prior to January 1st at today’s prices and install next year.
If you currently have a Nashoba Air quotation, after January 1st, we will have to re-quote, based on the increased pricing from manufacturers. Call us at 978-486-0600 for the details.
At Nashoba Air & BoilerWorks, we try to keep up with the news and trends that affect our business and, ultimately, our customers. What we know now is that the tariffs will increase pricing. This is not a scare tactic. Rather, we want you to be informed so you can make the right decisions for you and your family.

    The Aftermath of the Explosions
    in Merrimack Valley
The September home explosions in Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover caused by the over-pressurizing of gas lines serviced by Columbia Gas and Oil have far-reaching repercussions that extend beyond those families who experienced this tragic event.
All 48 miles of gas lines affected by the gas explosion and fires must be replaced. All buildings must be inspected, and outdated electrical systems rewired. While the gas line replacement is moving along with more than 90% complete, the work inside homes in the affected area, is proving to be more of a challenge. All appliances must be inspected and replaced, if necessary. This includes gas stoves and ovens, cooktops, driers, hot water heaters, and heating systems that are fueled by natural gas.
Nashoba Air & BoilerWorks is helping with the restoration work by assisting some of the affected homeowners. State officials and Columbia Gas announced last week they are pushing back the utility’s original deadline to restore all heat and hot water to homes and businesses in the Merrimack Valley to December 16th.
