Ayer Reads Together - 2016
Read the Book. Watch the Movie. Meet the Author
Ayer Library is hosting the 2016 Ayer Reads Together featuring The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Most Daring Rescue written by Massachusetts authors Michael Tougias and Casey Sherman.
In February, 1952, the U.S. Coast Guard was sent out to rescue two tankers that had been caught in a ferocious nor’easter off the coast of Chatham, Massachusetts. Both ships had split in two, leaving their crews trapped inside with little hope for survival. Learn how the Coast Guard, with only one 36-foot lifeboat and four junior-enlisted men, battled through brutal waves to rescue 32 men stranded at sea during one of New England’s worst winter storms.
Join library staff, patrons and other townsfolk for the following events on Wednesdays, 7:00pm:
Oct. 5th – Movie: The Finest Hours
Oct. 12th – History of the Coast Guard: Discussion with U.S. Coast Guard representative.
Oct. 19th – Author Visit: A special presentation by author Michael Tougias
Oct. 26th – Book Discussion: Talk about the book, movie and the author with fellow readers.
